WHAT: Rain Barrel Public Art Event

WHERE: 52 locations within Erie County
  • MAP (781.26 KB)

  • WHEN: Summer of 2016. The grand reveal of the barrels took place in March 2016 at the Erie Home and Garden Show at the Bayfront Convention Center. The barrels are now in their respective locations, waiting for photo ops!

WHY: Water is essential to all life on earth. Humans can only live 2-3 days without it, and it needs to be clean and healthy to be useful. Using a rain barrel to harvest the water and use it within our homes and businesses help us conserve the clean water and remind us that if we want to continue to use the water, we must also keep it clean. Rain water can be used for almost anything! Watering flower beds, bathing animals, ponds, washing cars, the possibilities are endless. The Erie County Conservation District and EnvironmentErie have partnered up for this project, along with many other partners and sponsors, to make this event a reality. Have an adventure and see what our local art talent created!

WHO: Local artists! All 46 artists involved in this project are in Erie County, PA and showcase a tremendous amount of talent. No two barrels are alike; we highly recommend viewing the barrels in person to get the full effect of the details and time involved in each project.

WHO ELSE?: Erie County Conservation District and EnvironmentErie have partnered with several other knowledgeable partners such as the Erie Art Museum, Tungsten Creative Group, DEP, PACD, and Erie Arts and Culture to fund this event and bring it to reality.

AND Of course, we are always grateful to our sponsors for their support for our projects and outreach to the community. Thank you to Bonnell's Collision for priming each barrel in preparation for the artists' work, and also to Good Ideas, Inc. for donating each pedestal in which the barrels stand. We are also appreciative of Birkmire Trucking to assist us in relocating each barrel to the Expo, and Eriebank for their financial assistance. A final thank you to Trolleyline Vineyards and Welch's for their donation of barrels! Because of our local sponsors and support, Erie County is able to take advantage of water conservation efforts and also enjoy the results of our local art talent!
